Harnessing the data revolution for precipitation estimation and prediction across scales and regimes.

The goal of IPC15 is to foster a dynamic and global platform for scientists, practitioners, students, and policymakers to address emerging challenges, explore innovative approaches and technologies, and discuss the future of precipitation science and applications. Building on the success of IPC14, the conference will include standard sessions, interactive discussions, and workshops aimed at developing practical skills for the next generation of researchers.

Set in Coimbra, home to one of the world’s oldest universities, IPC15 offers a unique blend of rich heritage and modern innovation, providing an inspiring venue for global collaboration.

    Join leading experts including Dr. Pierre Kirstetter (UO/NOAA) Dr. Burke Griggs (Washburn Univeristy School of Law), Dr. Alfredo Dias (Vice-rector, Univ. of Coimbra),  Bruno Carvalho (Weather Stream), José Mendes (Coimbra Metropolitan Region), and others for a timely discussion moderated by Carolina Sá (Portuguese Space Agency) on the challenges and opportunities of turning precipitation and climate data into effective policy, operational decisions, and public-good outcomes.

        IPC15 pre-conference

        Europe Workshop

        June 1st, 2026

        This free virtual workshop welcomes all participants who wish to learn about European perspectives on precipitation science.

        The workshop will include a range of invited talks (including on WIVERN, EarthCARE, model downscaling impacts, global drop size distributions, etc.) and discussion sessions with a focus on how European activities can help to address priority goals in precipitation science.

        Asia Workshop

        June 2nd, 2026

        This free virtual workshop welcomes all participants who wish to learn about European perspectives on precipitation science.
        This workshop brings together experts in Asia to address critical challenges in Asian monsoon forecasting by exploring how satellite missions, ground-based observations, high-resolution NWP modeing, and AI frameworks can drive regional collaboration and operational forecasting improvements.
